In 1984, the Du Pont telescope, with a coronagraph and a Charged-Coupled Device (CCD) camera, was used to image a circumstellar disk for the first time. Thanks to imaging taken in 2003 using the Very Large Telescope (VLT) at Cerro Paranal, an exoplanet called Beta Pictoris B. was registered in 2008, followed by the announcement of Beta Pictoris C. in 2019.
The Du Pont telescope was designed using an optical design in accordance to the natural conditions of observation where it is located. Its observation field is vast, suitable for direct imaging. The screen you see in front of you provides more information about the telescope and the science behind it. I also invite you to enter the dome to see it more closely.
